When I was a student, I remember my teacher picking a song for me to play at a recital that I did not care for. At all. I did not have any say in what I was playing, and the piece was difficult, so I spent nearly a year playing a song I didn't like. That experience was so formative for me, that when I became a teacher, I decided that I would never do that to my students.

As a result, in this studio:

  • Students are always included in decisions about song selection. AND

  • We have found a better way to make it easier for students to learn the basics faster so they can get to playing songs THEY LOVE as soon as possible.

The Piano Lab

Kids 6 and older:

  • Hour-long piano class each week.

  • Learn how to practice without parent supervision.

  • Progress through early levels quickly.

  • Learn to teach themselves songs they want to play.

  • Learn to play what they see and what they hear.

  • Can play music they love: classical, Disney songs, movie songs, songs from video games, WHATEVER, within their first year.

  • Learn the basics of how to write their own music.

Adults:

  • Adult piano students are able to schedule weekly or bi-weekly 30-minute lessons so you can work around YOUR schedules and still learn.

  • Beginning adult piano students learn treble and bass clef fundamentals within the first six months.

  • Adult piano students are able to start working on favorite songs within the first year of taking taking piano lessons.

  • There is no expectation or pressure to perform [unless the student wants to join the recitals].

  • Your teacher is your coach! Your progress is up to you.

  • Beginning voice students improve basic skills [singing in tune, diction, breath support] within the first six months of lessons.

  • More advanced voice students are able to sing in many different styles, with whatever songs they want to sing including but not limited to Disney, Broadway, classical, and pop music. They are also actively working and learning to become accomplished musicians, as well as good vocalists.

  • Voice students will be able to sightread simple music, understand microphone technique, work on stage presence, and have your first performance opportunities within your first year of lessons.
